We decided to go to lunch before he left since we would not get our weekend nights for date night. So we picked a place nice and close to the airport (and also delicious) and enjoyed lunch. We had plenty of time to spare before Parker needed to get to the airport, but early is always better!
So off to the airport we went. Except Dallas construction is awful by the airport and the exit to go to the freeway was closed. We literally ended up driving around the airport before we got there. When we did, so much time had passed that Parker could no longer check in with his bag and had to bump his flight! Bummer... fortunately, the airline lady didn't charge him. We're still not sure why, but we are thankful!
While waiting at the airport for the next flight, Parker realized he forgot his phone charger. And his computer charger. And a tie. Whoops. Never done that before.
Once he got to the hotel, he pulled out the confirmation number his work had emailed him. The hotel informed him that all reservations started with a "3." His started with a 2. They could not find him in the system. Fail. Fortunately, they did figure it out, but it took some time.
Coming home was just as rocky... he literally checked into the airport one minute before they would have bumped his flight again!
And his ride was quite slow picking him up. Same thing happened to me-- except worse because I haven't figured out the maze that Texans call roads yet. So when my airport routes (yes, multiple routes) were closed, it took me an extra hour to pick Parker up. We live ten minutes from the airport, it's cool.
As we were leaving the airport, Parker went to pull out his wallet to pay the tolls... except it wasn't there. It has vanished into the lost and found that is American Airlines. He even knew exactly where it was, but we couldn't get a hold of anyone to just walk in the plane and grab it for us. Bummer.
Fortunately though, the trip was a great success, despite all the funny "you're kiddings!" that happened.
The conference went well and Parker was able to get a sale and some good leads. Yes! He was able to stay with his good friend and they were nice enough to show him around town... He loved Palo Alto and kept texting me how we were "for sure coming back." He dined like a king and was even able to drive a Tesla (it belonged to the neighbor of said friend). What a dream come true for Parker, even if it was a different model than the one he hopes to own someday.
